The new “dual-purpose ring releases the antiretroviral drug dapivirine and the contraceptive hormone levonorgestrel.” In a two-week trial involving 24 women, “there were no safety concerns, and the ring was well-tolerated.” The findings of the National Institutes of Health-funded study were presented at an HIV prevention conference in Spain.
