Gout cases also had a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus (15.2% versus 8.1%, P<0.001), hypertension 43.4% versus 21.5%, P<0.001), ischemic heart disease (12.2% versus 7.6%, P<0.001), chronic renal disease (8.3% versus 2.7%, P<0.001) and depression (19.6% versus 16.3%, P<0.001) compared with matched controls.
