Can Prozac Treat enterovirus EV-D68 Paralysis in Kids?
Researcher proposes that fluoxetine may have antiviral activity against EV-D68. It's not clear why the drug has this antiviral activity; no other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) has antiviral effects. But some work has shown that the drug may somehow interact with the enteroviral 2C protein.
Although this protein's role in enteroviral function isn't established, it's likely involved in viral RNA synthesis, Tyler wrote. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Neurology/GeneralNeurology/50504?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2015-03-17&utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DailyHeadlines&utm_source=ST&eun=g721819d0r&userid=721819&email=amydugan2@gmail.com&mu_id=5883165
