Unapproved Drugs Found In 746 Dietary Supplements For Sexual Enhancement, Weight Loss, And Muscle Growth
reports that “researchers found unapproved and sometimes dangerous drugs in 746 dietary supplements, almost all of them marketed for sexual enhancement, weight loss or muscle growth.” The researchers reviewed “a Food and Drug Administration database of contaminated supplements for the years 2007 to 2016” and found instances of supplements contaminated with different drugs. The findings (10/5) were published in JAMA Network Open.
Reuters (10/12, Carroll) reported the researchers from the California Department of Public Health found that “potentially harmful pharmaceuticals not listed on product labels...were most likely to appear in supplements marketed as weight loss aids, muscle builders and male libido enhancers.”
