Antibiotic-Resistant Staph: Growing Source of Cardiac Device-Related Infections? Methicillin-resistant infections common in explanted leads
Methicillin-resistant infections related to cardiac implantable electronic device leads that must be explanted are on the rise, a single-center study suggested.
Staphylococcal species were the most common pathogens affecting recipients of implantable cardioverter defibrillators and pacemakers, comprising 68.4% of infections. Nearly half (49.4%) of the staphylococci were methicillin-resistant, which accounted for 33.8% of overall infections. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/Arrhythmias/57311?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2016-04-13&eun=g721819d0r
