Metformin May Help Youngsters With Autism With Antipsychotic-Related Weight Gain Slim Down, Study Suggests.
reports the diabetes medication metformin “may help overweight children and teens with autism slim down,” researchers found in a randomized study including 60 children with autism who ranged in age from six to 17 and who had gained weight “due to the side effects of taking antipsychotic medications for irritability and agitation.” The findings were published online Aug. 24 in JAMA Psychiatry.
