Free Testosterone Levels Tied To Reduced Chance Of Current Asthma In Adult Women

reports a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine indicates that sex hormones may account for the difference in asthma rates between the sexes. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital examined “sex hormone levels and asthma prevalence among adults from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)” and found that “free testosterone levels were shown to be associated with a reduced chance of current asthma among adult women.” The study, “which also took into account asthma disparities among obese and non-obese persons,” may help “explain the significantly greater rate of asthma among young adult women than their male counterparts.” https://www.mdmag.com/medical-news/sex-hormones-linked-to-asthma-risk
